History part one

mrmrscastine.jpgOver the past 99 years, four generations of the Castine family have built Castine Moving and Storage, headquartered at 1235 Chestnut St., into a successful operation with a reputation for providing quality customer service and satisfaction in the moving and storage industry, on both a national and international level.

The company was originally founded in 1923 by Frank Sr. and Hazel Castine, and was initially run out of their home in Athol, MA. In the early days, with a fleet of only four trucks, the company moved everything from wood to fuel oil to pianos to livestock, in addition to providing moving services for people who were relocating.

History part two trucks 30-60s

In the 1930’s two additional trucks were added to the fleet along with a 36 foot tractor trailer. Moving produce to and from Boston and New York City was added, along with overnight delivery of new furniture products from Winchendon, MA to New York City.

The 1940’s brought the purchase of the home office located at 1235 Chestnut Street in Athol, Mass.
The building once housed the Athol Shoe Company, as well as other businesses. The moving services expanded, covering most of the northeastern states and the movement of trade show displays, including boats, tools and furniture. Military relocations were also added during these years.

The 1950’s brought two additional tractor trailers and a larger emphasis on the hauling of household goods. The coverage area now included all states east of the Mississippi River. The company’s second location in Pittsfield, MA was also opened in 1958, helping to expand services further.

The purchase of five small moving and storage companies in the 1960’s helped to gain the company’s full 48 state authority.

History part three facilities

The 1970’s brought major corporate accounts such as General Electric, Xerox and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Three additional moving companies were also purchased in Florida, South Carolina and Maryland.

In the 1980’s, the company opened their warehouse located in Northampton, MA and constructed a new main warehouse in Orange , MA. International relocations also became part of the company’s services.

In the 1990’s, the company added additional tractor/trailer units and people to service the continuing increase in corporate relocations.

History part four

The core of the operation centers around providing detailed services to individuals and corporate clients who are either relocating facilities and, in turn, a number of employees, or who have top executives who are relocating and in need of services.
